iPod/MP3 Player Recipients

Jane McKinney enjoying her music player

Research has shown that musical memory is considered to be partly independent from other memory systems. In Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia, musical memory is amazingly strong. Personalized music, consisting of favorite songs associated with meaningful events, or people, have been shown to calm the chaotic brain activity and allows the listener to focus on the present moment and regain a connection with those around them.

The husband of a recent recipient sent us a note saying, ” a couple of days ago I had to take my wife in for a flu shot and blood work. She usually gets very upset when this happens. It’s difficult to get her to wear her mask. But this time she sat quietly in her wheelchair with her headphones on listening to her music while all the activity took place. No problems at all! Your program is great!”
